Tori Barrett/ Black River

"Black River" was created by El Anatsui. Antasui was trained at the College of Art, University of Science and Technology. This is known as " contemporary work"  This was made out of bottle caps, and copper wire and was made in 1994. At the canter of the artwork, there is a "black river" people question "is it oil, people, water, alcohol?" It seems to go along the border. The liquor rappers with names like "Dark Sailor" and "Black Gold" hint Africa's long history of slavery and colonialism as well as todays conflicts over natural resources, especially oil. The patterns on the lower right resemble traditional Ghanaian kente weavings. Antasui was popular in Nigeria.
