Allegory of mans choice- Nicole Durant
The oil painting was made in 1635. The name of the painting is Allegory of mans choice. It was made by Frans Francken the young who lived from 1581 to 1642. Francken shows how important it is to choose wisely. On the earth part it a man sat off toward the center who probably represents humanity. To his left are people from history, the bible and myths. On his right are things that embody sensual pleasure. Father Time is on the left and death is on the right. Father Time and death connect the underworld and earth. The devil sits down there. The monkey king mocks the powerful and blind Cupid cautions people about crazy desires. At the top of the painting Minerva sits with faith, hope and charity.
