Paul IV
Haileigh Stathopoulos
This specific oil painting is very unique. This painting is of Paul Cadmus, and he was well known to create social realist paintings. It was created by Chuck Close and I think the reason he created this was because Cadmus inspired Chuck very much.
This painting is created with oil, but the painting is a lot more than just oil on a canvas. It is created to look like Cadmus, but is created with very small listings to look like one very big piece of art.
In my opinion, this artwork was created because the man who painted it very much admired the man who is in the painting. Paul Cadmus was a very popular artist at this time, and Chuck Close painted him, because he was very much inspired. At an early point in Chuck's life, he was diagnosed with a disease that causes someone to have a very bad memory when it comes to recognizing faces, also known as "Face Blindness".
This painting was very big compared to all the ones around it, but as I was stepping closer and closer I realized it wasn't a regular painting, but a painting made out of small paintings. This intrigued me to read the description and I am very surprised that Chuck could finish this painting even while struggling with this disease. That is why I picked this painting to write about, it has a very deep meaning besides just being another piece of art in this world.
