At first look it's just a picture of a ship in a storm but then you relize that there are lims of African Americans in the water and the lims are being eaten by fish. This is used to depict a sad but true story of a cargo ship carrying slaves. The slaves got sick so the captain to save himself from getting sick he threw all the slaves overbourd. When this story got out and this painting was painted England was very upset and this helped get England closer to the end of slavery.Joseph Mallord William Turner is the artist and he made an unfinished poem to go with the painting. He exhibited this picture at the royal academy in 1840. It's an oil on canvas painting and it's an English painting 1775-1851. I chose this painting because I liked the oil on the canvas and I like how he made it so you really have to look at it to tell what it's about and even then you really have to think about it. This was an interesting photo and over all I liked it because it helped change some people's views on slavery and eventually helped get it band in England.
