Madison Shippee - Paul IV.
This specific oil painting was actually little paintings, all put together to create one big piece of art. Paul IV's real name was Paul Cadmus and he was a social realist artist. I think Chuck Close was inspired by this artist, which is why he made his painting of him. Chuck has a disease called Prosopagnosia, also known as 'Face Blindness'. This disease causes someone to have short term memory loss when it comes to recognizing faces. Chuck Close feels he needs to do portraits to remember the important people in his life. So as an inspiring artist, Paul Camdus was important to him. This piece of art went far beyond just being a piece of art some artist came up with and painted it. To me Chuck wanted to prove he could still be an amazing artist, with this disease. Personally, this is an inspiring piece, hes an aspiring artist. The way my tour guide showed it to us was cool too. Starting from far away, we got closer and closer. The closer we got, it was beginning to become just a lot of tiny paintings, you couldn't make out the face anymore.
