Slave ship- Nicole Durant

The painted was made by William Turner. He lived in England from 1775-1851. It was one of Turners most celebrated pieces of work. The title of the painting is slave ship and it was painted in 1840. The painting is based off of a poem. It depicts a true story of how a captain, in 1781, had threw a group of ill slaves overboard and sunk his ship to collect insurance money. He captured the scene through the colors and light that merged the sea and sky. The picture shows the slaves in the stormy water and the large boat sinking in the distance. Turner was an English romantic landscape artist. He devoted most of his life to art. He left more then 19000 paintings and drawings to the British nation.
