This pieace of art was drawn by Jusepe de Ribera. Jusepe de Ribera  was a Spanish Tenebrist painter and printmaker, better known as Jusepe de Ribera or Giuseppe Ribera. He also was called Lo Spagnoletto ("the Little Spaniard") by his contemporaries and early writers. Ribera was a leading painter of the Spanish school, although his mature work was all done in Italy. This art work was supposed to be Onuphrius. Onuphrius  was  venerated as Saint Onuphrius in both the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Catholic Churches; Venerable Onuphrius in Eastern Orthodoxy and Saint Nofer the Anchorite in Oriental Orthodoxy, lived as a hermit in the desert of Upper Egypt in the 4th or 5th centuries.this art work was drawn in 1642 it was a oil canvas. This was one of many of jusepe's half length images of catholic patron saints which were probably used for private use.it depicts the hermit saint Onuphrius in nothing but a leaf loin cloth. His dirty fingernails, hollowed cheeks, and flesh sagging emaciated frame showed he had no care for his health but only that of Christians trying to seek salvation in the deserts.the cristians would have try and survive in the dangerous dessert which was filled with robbers and many dangerous animals and the weather conditions were very hard to live in so they needed the help of at least one of the dessert fathers.
This a full pink suit made and designed by Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren born Ralph Lifshitz October 14, 1939 in New York City is an American fashion designer and business executive, best known for his Polo Ralph Lauren clothing brand, and a global multi-billion-dollar enterprise. He has become well known for his collection of rare automobiles, some of which have been displayed in museum exhibits. As of September 2012, Forbes estimates his wealth at $6.5 billion dollars, which makes Ralph Lauren the 162nd richest person in the world. Ralph made the full pink mans suit in 1967. The suit was made for Harrison Bowels. This was supposed to be a recreation of the fully pink suit worn by Robert Redford in the 1947 version of the great gatsby this suit was also made by Ralph Lauren. The suit is made of wool the shirt is a plain cotton weave shirt and a taffeta tie. In the great gatsby the suit is supposed to signifi Gatsby's mysterious past and lack of respectability. They say in the book " an Oxford man!... Like hell he is he wears a pink suit!".today men's dress is society embracing more of fluid ideas of gender and color.
This is a painting of king Lear drawn by Benjamin west in 1788. Benjamin west was an Anglo-American painter of historical scenes around and after the time of the American War of Independence. He was the second president of the Royal Academy in London, serving from 1792 to 1805 and 1806 to 1820. He was offered a knighthood by the British Crown, but declined it, believing that he should instead be made a peer. He was born on October 10,1738 and died march 11, 1820. King Lear is a tragedy by William Shakespeare. The title character descends into madness after disposing of his estate between two of his three daughters based on their flattery, bringing tragic consequences for all. The play is based on the legend of Leir of Britain, a mythological pre-Roman Celtic king. It has been widely adapted for the stage and motion pictures, and the role of Lear has been coveted and played by many of the world's most accomplished actors. The play was written between 1603 and 1606 and later revised. Shakespeare's earlier version, The True Chronicle of the History of the Life and Death of King Lear and His Three Daughters, was published in quarto in 1608. The Tragedy of King Lear, a more theatrical version, was included in the 1623 First Folio. Modern editors usually conflate the two, though some insist that each version has its individual integrity that should be preserved.
This work of art is the model boats of the Egypts. They used these boats to travel the Nile river.the Nile river isa major north-flowing river in northeastern Africa, generally regarded as the longest river in the world. It is 6,853 km (4,258 miles) long. The Nile is an "international" river as its water resources are shared by eleven countries, namely, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt. In particular, the Nile is the primary water resource and life artery for Egypt and Sudan.the Egyptians may not have been such a successful race of people if not for the Nile it allowed them to get resources and other useful things they couldn't get on land. Egyptian identity is closely tied to geography. The population of Egypt is concentrated in the lower Nile valley, the small strip of cultivable land stretching from the First Cataract to the Mediterranean and enclosed by desert both to the east and to the west. This unique geography has been the basis of the development of Egyptian society since antiquity. If regarded as a single ethnic group, the Egyptian people constitute one of the world's largest.

Haileigh Stathopulos. Vertical Landscape

Vertical Landscape Painting
Haileigh Stathopoulos
This unique piece of art is created by Jason Middlebrook, an American artist who was born in 1996. It was created in 2011, and Middlebrook called it the Vertical Landscape Painting. This piece of art, is half of a tree, and was painted on the cut side.
The reason this artwork is so different and unique is because it is made out of a part of nature itself. The cute half of this tree was then painted with multiple different paints and is now a very beautiful and popular piece of art. It was created on a plank of wood, like all of Middlebrook's sculptures, with acrylic on a black walnut plank.
Almost all of Jason Middlebrook's artwork is made with wood and he has a special technique with how he does his own work. Since this was so recently made, it does not have much to do with his culture or with his religion.
This sculpture caught my eye, from the height and colors. It was very tall, and I knew immediately that it was made out of a tree. Which made me want to know a lot more about the process and making of this special piece of art. The way Middlebrook had made this is very different than most of the art I have seen before.

Haileigh Stathopoulos Paul IV

Paul IV
Haileigh Stathopoulos
This specific oil painting is very unique. This painting is of Paul Cadmus, and he was well known to create social realist paintings. It was created by Chuck Close and I think the reason he created this was because Cadmus inspired Chuck very much.
This painting is created with oil, but the painting is a lot more than just oil on a canvas. It is created to look like Cadmus, but is created with very small listings to look like one very big piece of art.
In my opinion, this artwork was created because the man who painted it very much admired the man who is in the painting. Paul Cadmus was a very popular artist at this time, and Chuck Close painted him, because he was very much inspired. At an early point in Chuck's life, he was diagnosed with a disease that causes someone to have a very bad memory when it comes to recognizing faces, also known as "Face Blindness".
This painting was very big compared to all the ones around it, but as I was stepping closer and closer I realized it wasn't a regular painting, but a painting made out of small paintings. This intrigued me to read the description and I am very surprised that Chuck could finish this painting even while struggling with this disease. That is why I picked this painting to write about, it has a very deep meaning besides just being another piece of art in this world.

Haileigh Stathopoulos Bolsjer

Bolsjer
Haileigh Stathopoulos
This sculpture was created by a woman, from Denmark, named Gugger Petter. She made this to show different candies she had eaten as a child, as you can see from the name of this art called Bolsjer which is translated to "hard candy". She even made the different parts of this sculpture in different colors to show the excitement and joy from the candy itself.
Bolsjer was created out of newspaper. This newspaper is printed in color to achieve vibrant hues that allude to childhood happiness. Each candy printed in a different color to show an individual candy. It is woven newspaper and hemp.
Gugger Petter made this to represent the candies she had when she was very young, the candy was Danish candy and was made into a sculpture to show her joy for the candies she had eaten when she was a young girl.
This Danish sculpture caught my eye, from far away. I walked closer expecting to see a quilt because of the pattern. I realized it was a sculpture made out of newspaper and I was really interested in how it was done and why this certain piece was made. The reason this was made is very extraordinary.

Infanta Maria Theresa. Haileigh Stathopoulos

Infanta Maria Theresa Portrait
Haileigh Stathopoulos
The portrait, of Infanta Princess Maria Theresa was created in Spain, to be brought to France. Princess Maria Theresa's father requested the painting to be made, to bring it to France and show it off to find his daughter a husband.
This painting was made with oils on a canvas, by Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velázquez. The freshness of the colors and brushwork stress the fifteen year old infanta's desirability, and suggest that Velázquez was very close in the making.
This painting was made for a very specific reason. Spain and France were very big and popular countries in the 1600's, so the king of Spain, had a painting of his daughter made at age 15, and sent it to France so they would find a husband in France for her and the two countries could be close and have more power. Princess Maria Theresa ended up marrying Luis XIV of France.
The reason this painting made me want to know more about it just from looking at it, was from how young she looked, yet professional. She has a very big dress on and her hair is done up. When I read the description of this portrait, I was even more interested in this story. The painting is painted very well and the reason it was made was even more interesting.

Haileigh Stathopoulos black river

Black River
Haileigh Stathopoulos
The sculpture "Black River", made by El Anatsui. This was made to symbolize Africa's long history of slavery, hint the long black streak of what people are questioning is, oil or ink, or maybe alcohol? The long strip of black is also representing colonialism, and over today's conflicts over natural resources, especially oil.
This sculpture was created by bottle caps and copper wire. It was created as "contemporary work". A thin black strip is going from the top to bottom, and is guessed to be either, oil or ink, or even alcohol. It is also called the black river for looking quite much like a river, going along the border.
Black river has a lot to do with the culture from which it emerged from. The sculpture was created to symbolize Africa's very long history of slavery. The black strip is very symbolic, representing a river going along the border, and also showing colonialism.
This particular sculpture caught my eye at first, being made out of bottle caps. As I read through the plaque it made me actually think of how religious this piece must be in Africa, showing the hard times of slavery and making me think of the worlds problems today, over the natural resources. Black river caught my eye from look, but made me feel much deeper about it as I read on.

Gerhard richter Seth Davenport

Gerhard Richter born 9 February 1932 is a German visual artist and one of the pioneers of the New European Painting that has emerged in the second half of the twentieth century. Richter has produced abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. His art follows the examples of Picasso and Jean Arp in undermining the concept of the artist's obligation to maintain a single cohesive style. In October 2012, Richter's Abstraktes Bild set an auction record price for a painting by a living artist at 34 million dollars. This was exceeded in May 2013 when his 1968 piece Domplatz, Mailand (Cathedral square, Milan) was sold for $37.1 million dollars in New York. In 1983, Richter resettled from Düsseldorf to Cologne, where he still lives and works today. In the early days of his career, he prepared a wall painting Communion with Picasso, 1955 for the refectory of his Academy of Arts. In 1996, he moved into a studio designed by architect Thiess Marwede. Richter married Marianne Eufinger in 1957 she gave birth to his first daughter. He married his second wife, the sculptor Isa Genzken, in 1982. Richter had a son and daughter with his third wife, Sabine Moritz after they were married in 1995.

Jason middlebrook Seth Davenport

Jason Middlebrook gathers his creative inspiration from nature and from humans' endless fear and misunderstanding that leads to our destructive impact on the earth. From sculptural installations of salvaged materials to colorfully drafted renderings of flora and fauna, Middlebrook questions the relationships between humans, nature, and art. While his work is certainly critical of that relationship, Middlebrook also finds beauty in the garbage, detritus, and collisions of man and nature.Middlebrook has both enlightened and offended with his controversial ideas about the places where art lives and how art is viewed. Based on the quotation, "Museums are places where art goes to die," Middlebrook did several projects critiquing museums' authority, treating museum spaces as graveyards for art. His work is often site-specific, challenging traditional expectations for boundaries between civilization, culture, and nature. He was Born 1966 Jackson, MI, he now works and lives in Hudson new York. Although he was born in Michigan however, the first ten years of his life were spent in Iowa, Kentucky, and Los Gatos, California, where his family finally settled.

Louise nevelson Seth Davenport

Louise Nevelson She collected scrap wood, pieces of furniture, even wheels and then stacked, assembled, and bolted them into carefully framed compositions. She painted them entirely in black unlike other artist. Born in Czarist Russia, she emigrated with her family to the United States in the early 20th century. Nevelson learned English at school, as she spoke Yiddish at home. early 1930s she was attending art classes at the Art Students League of New York, and in 1941 she had her first solo exhibition. Louise Nevelson was born Leah Berliawsky in 1899 in Perislav, Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire, to Minna Sadie and Isaac Berliawsky, a contractor and lumber merchant. Nevelson's relatives had begun to leave the Russian Empire for America in the 1880s.The Berliawskys had to stay behind, as Isaac, the youngest brother, had to care for his parents. Minna gave birth to two of Nevelson's siblings: Nathan and Anita. In 1905 Minna and the children emigrated to the United States, where they joined Isaac in Rockland, Maine. Isaac suffered from depression he was a wood cutter and worked in a junkyard. After awhile he became a successful lumberyard owner and a realtor. She dies April 17th, 1988 but had a good life.

Bockscar Seth Davenport

Bockscar was the B-29 that dropped the second atomic bomb on japan 1945. Jackson made the cockpit from charred wood and a view from windscreen in Formica. The blackened wood evokes destruction, but Jackson says the pastel hues recalls the sunset in idealize 19th century American landscape paintings. Formica was used for airplane propellers in world war 2, and then in postwar suburban homes. On August ninth 1945 bockscar piloted by the 393d  commander major Charles w. Sweeney dropped the fat man nuclear bomb with the equivalent of 21 kilotons of TNT over the city of Nagasaki. About forty-four percent of the city was destroyed 3500 people died and 60000 people were injured.  Bockscar had been flown by Sweeney and crew C-15 in three test drop rehearsals of inert Fat Man assemblies in the eight days leading up to the second mission, including the final rehearsal the day before. During pre-flight inspection of Bockscar, the flight engineer notified Sweeney that an inoperative fuel transfer pump made it impossible to use 640 US gallons of fuel carried in a reserve tank. After the war, Bockscar returned to the United States in November 1945 and served with the 509th at Roswell Army Air Field, New Mexico. It was nominally assigned to the Operation Crossroads task force, but there are no records indicating that it deployed for the tests. In August 1946 it went to Army Air Force Unit at Davis-Monthan Army Air Field, Arizona, for storage.

Alexandre Rodrigues - Paul IV

This piece of art is a painting of Paul Cadmus. Paul was particularly famous for drawings of nude male figures. Maybe he paints people that he idolizes or appreciates their work so he paints them. The artist who painted the painting was chuck close. Close had a spinal artery collapse in 1988 leaving him severely paralyzed. He is a photographer as well as a painter. He does photorealism and hyperrealism wich are the main styles he is known for. Close has worked with many styles, but it was his early airbrush technique that inspired the development of the ink jet printer.
Chuck had very artistic parents that fully supported his early creative interests. On july 5 1940 in monroe washington, Chuck Close was born. Chuck suffered from severe dyslexia giving him trouble in almost all phases of school work besides art. Close had a neuromuscular condition that prevented him from playing sports. When Close was eleven his dad died and his mother became ill with breast cancer. Chuck also became ill with a kidney infection that kept him bed riden for almost a year. At the age of fourteen, Close determined himself to become an artist after seeing an exhibition of jackson Pollack.

Matt Noonan - Black River

"Black River" was created by El Antatsui .  He was born in Ghana in 1944.  He made this piece in 2009 with a team of assistants. El Antatsui is known as one of the most exciting artists of artwork anywhere. He and his assistants assembled discarded liquor bottle caps into a metallic tapestry.  I wonder if he was an alcoholic.  The exhibition is devoid of a linking theme, although notions of craft, colonialism, and urban experience chase one another.  I wonder why he chose gold.  To make it look rich or maybe to stand out.  I would like to know why it is called Black River.  I see a few strips of black coming down halfway but it doesn't look like a river.  It also looks like there are mountains or very large rocks or cliffs under the bottle caps.  I also wonder why he edged it so oddly shaped.  I think he was trying to resemble a town , city , state, or even a country.  I find it very strange that this is considered a piece of art.  Some say that the "Black  River" hints at Africa's long history of slavery.  I wonder if this is what this piece is about or something else.

Matt Noonan - Mountain Landscape from Clavdel

This painting was made By a German artist named Ernst Ludwig Kirchneri.   He lived from 1880 to 1938.  The year he created this painting was 1926 and took him a year to make.  The painting is of oil on canvas.  Kirchner suffered a complete mental and physical collapse after being called up for service during World War I.  Then he moved to Switzerland hoping the mountain air would cure his minds and body.  He then painted the high alps with very bold colors and coarse brushwork.  I wonder if this was his view from his house.  I also wonder what are the two people doing in ghe middle of the picture.  Also some of the trees look like animals, I wonder if he did that in purpose.  When he drew this was he still in his mental and physical collapse?  I also wonder why he named it "Mountain Landscape from Clavdel." When I first saw the painting I first noticed the very vivid colors.  I also noticed that he paints the tree trunks a dark pinkish color.  Some parts of the sky is brown. Maybe it was to show his darkness to the painting.  Maybe he lived in one of the two cabins down below.

Matt Noonan - Wings

This contemporary art piece by Lynda Benglis, a prominent American sculptor of the 1960s, is mounted to the wall.  It is massive and solid aluminum and it weighs about 800 pounds, and starts at at a height of about 8 feet before hanging off the wall hovering over the floor.  Lynda Benglis titled this "Wing" but I'm not sure why because it doesn't look like a wing. I'm not sure what it looks like.  When I first looked at it I thought it was a seat that somebody really important would sit on.  It also kind of looked like a giant squid to me.  I asked both my father and sister what they thought it was and they both said different things.  My dad thought it looked like a a large hand and my sister thought it looked like a dog that was facing the wall.  I really like now she put lots of details on the back but I am wondering why the artifact is facing the wall so I cannot see the face. I wonder what made the artist to think of doing a "wing" in the first place.  I also wonder why she chose to make it out of solid aluminum.

Matt Noonan - Blown Glass

The blown glass was a piece made in 1991 made by Stephen Rolfee Powell. Stephen Powell was born in 1951 and now lives In Louisiana, Kentucky .  Stephen Rolfee Powell was in his Teaser Series and he named this piece "Manic Saturn Johnson." The Museam Of Fine Arts got this piece in 2011.  The artist liked exploding the physedelic color and light.  He also liked to put multiple pieces of colored glass together and contort during the heating and shaping process creating a fluid pattern.  This was most likely used as a vase that you can put flowers in.  When Powell was making this he stood on a platform a little higher than 4 feet and he would shape it with his assistance down below him.  The vase itself is about two and a half feet tall.  On the bottom of the vase where the water goes is a large ball shape part that narrows into a skinny tunnel up top where you would put your flowers in.  The artists used mostly lighter colors.  Some colors were pink, light blue, And light green.  He mixed some of the colors to create other colors that are also very light. I think Powell made this vase to stand out and Make sure you could see it because when I saw it , it caught my eye.

Matt Noonan - Boscar

Matthew Day Jackson is an American born in 1974 who created the piece the "Bockscar".  The Museam Of Fine Arts received this piece in 2010 shortly after it was made. This represents the cockpit of the plane, a B-29,  that dropped the second atomic bomb on Japan in 1949.  It is made out of burned wood and Formica on wood panel.  The blackened wood shows destruction but Jackson says the pastel hues recall the sunset that shows the American landscape.  The sunset as the background is very interesting.  I wonder what the pilot actually saw when he was flying over Japan ready to drop the bomb.  Did he see a sunset? It makes this peice of art all that more interesting and unique. Formica was used for airplane propellers in World War II.  Jackson calls it "veneer that supports an illusion". There is a lot of attention to detail in the cockpit, you can see the wires, controls and steering wheel clearly in this piece of art.  I never really thought of something like the "Bockscar" being a piece of art.  When I think of art I think of a painting or a sketch.  The Bockscar brightened my view of art

Cole Tobin - Lumières

This art piece is done by Christian Boltanski. Christian is French, born in 1944 and lives in Paris. He calls this piece "Lumières (blue square - sylvie) and it was made in 2000. This art piece is made out of incandescent light bulbs and gelatin silver print. This piece really caught my eye when i saw it because I've never seen something like it before. Usually when I see art it's a photograph/painting or a sculpture but this is a bunch of light bulbs lined up with each other in rows with what looks like a mirror in the middle. Boltanski builds altars to memory and loss. Naked bulbs cast a ghostly blue glow around photos he finds at antique shops and flea markets. We can't really make eye contact with "sylvie." Who is out of focus and obscured by the wire; the piece is supposed to mimic the way memories shift and fade. Boltanski was deeply affected by his Jewish father's stories of hiding in Paris during World War II. We don't really know if Sylvie was a hidden person, or even if Sylview as Jewish, but Boltanski transforms her into and icon of humanity.

Cole Tobin - Mirror-Shadow VIII

This art piece is done by Louise nevelson, and is called Mrirror- Shadow VIII and it is made entirely out of painted wood. Louise is an American artist born in 1899 and sadly passed away in 1988. She lived in New York and started attending art classes in the early 1930's at the art students league of New York, and in 1941 she had her first solo art exhibition. She did a little painting and printing before dedicating her life work to sculpture. Most of her sculpture work was made out of wood and often stood on walls, her artwork appeared puzzle - like to many people. Louise's work was complicated, yet simple, precarious but somehow balanced. Louise's works, like those of the cubist painters who inspired her, push recognizable forms toward abstraction. She collected scrap wood, old pieces from furniture, or even wooden wheels from carriages, and then stacked, assembled, bolted them into carefully framed compositions. Most of the time she painted them entirely in black. Unlike most artists, Louise reduced her palette to add content. For Louise, black had a mystical sense of wholeness: it "is the total color. It means totality. It means: contains all."

Cole Tobin - Vertical Landscape Painting

This art piece is made by Jason Middlebrook. He is an American artist who was born in 1966 and lives in Hudson, New York. Jason calls this piece "Vertical Landscape Painting" and it was made in 2011. Out of all the art pieces I have seen this has gotta be one of the coolest looking ones ever, I looked at it and the reason I thought it looked so cool was because it was half of a tree painted in all different colors. Once I saw the tree I just knew I had to take a picture of it, then when it came time to write I chose it. Middlebrook's paintings exist somewhere between painting and sculpture, deeply rooted in the history of his material and process. Middlebrook seems to use the same technique on all of his art pieces. He seems to always make something out of wood, or just take a piece of wood and turn it into an abstract work of art. This piece is made out of acrylic on black walnut plank. He sources imperfect sections of trees from New York and Massachusetts and waxes them to bring out their natural sheen. After taping off carefully calibrated strips, he paints over the planks in broad, expressive strokes. This works man mad geometries are a withdrawl from nature - a nod to the history of abstract art. At the same time, Middlebrook's references to the revers of the wood grain's own naturally absract patterns.

Cole Tobin - Bockscar

This art piece is done by Mathew Day Jackson, he calls is "Bockscar" and it was created in 2010. He is an American artist who has worked with sculpture, painting, photography, video, collage, drawing, performance and installation. He graduated with an MFA from Rutgers university in 2001 and got his BFA from the university of Washington in Seattle. Mathew was born in 1974 and lives in Brooklyn, New York. Mathew is represented by Hauser and Wirth and Grimm Gallery in Amsterdam. This art piece looks like it could be made out of many things; charcoal, painted wood, burnt plane parts. Although many of those sound like they could be correct, there not. This art piece is made entirely out of burnt wood. Bockscar was the B - 29 that dropped the second atomic bomb on japan in 1945. Jackson constructed this from charred wood and the view through the windscreen in Formica. The blackens wood evokes destruction. But Jackson says the pastel hues recall the sunsets glorified the 19th century American landscape paintings. Formica was used for airplane propellers in Word War II, and then in postwar suburban homes, where it often covered cheaper materials. Jackson calls it the "veneer that supports an illusion." When I was walking by this piece a teacher called me over and told me that it was made entirely out of burnt wood which really confused me becaus usually burnt wood just falls apart. I went to go read about it because I wanted to see how he made it, then I knew I wanted to write about it.

Cole Tobin - Black River

This art piece is done by El Anatsui. Anatsui has exhibited his work all around including the Clark art institute, rice university art gallery, metropolitan meuseum of art, and many more. El is Ghanaian and was born in 1944. He lives in Nsukka, Nigeria and he calls his piece "black river" and it was created in 2006. It's made out of aluminum bottle labels, bottle caps, and copper wire. He didn't do all of this alone, El worked with a team of assistants to put together all the discarded liquor bottle caps and wrappers Into metallic tapestry. When this piece is pinned to the wall, it almost resembles a topographical map with its rolling hills and valleys. At the center, which looks like a black river has raised many questions as to what is could be - Is it oil? People? Water? Alcohol? - seems to seep across a border. Liquor wrappers with names like "dark sailor" or "black gold" hint at Africa's Long history of slavery and colonialism, as well as today's struggles over natural resources, especially oil. The patterns made by some of the wrappers at the lower right part of the piece resemble traditional Ghanaian kente weavings. When I saw this piece on the wall it intrigued me because it was different then all the others around it. It was shiny, looked like gold on the wall. So I went over to the piece to. Heck out what it was made out of and when I saw that it was made out of bottle caps and wrappers I was totally fought off guard. I chose this piece because I've never heard of or seen an art piece made out of all bottle caps and wrappers

Cf- Pâté de verre cast glass by Etsuko Nishi

This piece art was made from Etsuko Nishi's interest in nature. The glass art was made by a technique called glass paste wich falls in the category of contemporary art. She lived Japan wich has a very big interest in nature.  This piece of art was very interesting it brought questions to my mind like how was it created like that and why do the leaves look so real?  This type of art is very beautiful and original. This piece  of glass uses very unique corners to add amazing shapes to the leaves.  If you looked at it from the top or bottom, they would be very different views.

Madison Shippee - Bolsjer.

Gugger Petter creates her works out of newspaper. Gugger Petter uses different sections of every newspaper to create a color variation. As a younger child, she used to go to the pharmacy to get these golden candies. In Danish 'Bolsjer' means hard candy, which is why she titled this specific piece of art that. Gugger Petter most likely created this piece because it brought her back to her childhood. She didn't only make this works of art to please herself and bring back her own memories, but for others too. For many other Danish people this is a pleasant memory also. Gugger Petter grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark. These hard candies were very popular there, and gave the children something to look forward to. I chose this particular piece of art, because of the way she did it. I have never seen anything like it. You could tell she put a lot of time and effort into something that meant a lot to her, and many other people from Copenhagen. In this art piece made out of newspaper, I could see the color variations and the combinations of different newspaper sections she used.

Madison Shippee - Paul IV.

This specific oil painting was actually little paintings, all put together to create one big piece of art. Paul IV's real name was Paul Cadmus and he was a social realist artist. I think Chuck Close was inspired by this artist, which is why he made his painting of him. Chuck has a disease called Prosopagnosia, also known as 'Face Blindness'. This disease causes someone to have short term memory loss when it comes to recognizing faces. Chuck Close feels he needs to do portraits to remember the important people in his life. So as an inspiring artist, Paul Camdus was important to him. This piece of art went far beyond just being a piece of art some artist came up with and painted it. To me Chuck wanted to prove he could still be an amazing artist, with this disease. Personally, this is an inspiring piece, hes an aspiring artist. The way my tour guide showed it to us was cool too. Starting from far away, we got closer and closer. The closer we got, it was beginning to become just a lot of tiny paintings, you couldn't make out the face anymore.

Tori Barrett/Ewer

The ewer was a large based helmet shaped presentation. It has a scrolled handle with "foliate" decoration; and air vent below. The creator of this artwork is Baldwin Gardiner. Gardiner was born in 1791. The medium is silver. The pitcher combines hand craftsmanship with machine work. Most of it is "repousse", a labor-intensive technique that involves hammering from the inside but the border around the "lip" and the central band are "die-rolled" Die rolled is a less expensive machine process that made patterns in strips of silver that could then be attached to the peace.  Baldwin Gardiner was the younger brother of Boston and Philadelphia silversmith Sidney Gardiner. Both men were born in Long Island, to John Gardiner of that town and Abigail Worth of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Shortly after the death of Sidney Gardiner in 1827, Baldwin Gardiner moved to New York, where he established a furnishings warehouse called "B. Gardiner and Co" He sold imported French plateaus, lamps, etc. In 1832, he operated a steam-driven manufactory. Not all of Baldwins work was marked on site. Baldwins factory had many different creations such as cheese knives, spoons and tongs.

Tori Barrett/ Black River

"Black River" was created by El Anatsui. Antasui was trained at the College of Art, University of Science and Technology. This is known as " contemporary work"  This was made out of bottle caps, and copper wire and was made in 1994. At the canter of the artwork, there is a "black river" people question "is it oil, people, water, alcohol?" It seems to go along the border. The liquor rappers with names like "Dark Sailor" and "Black Gold" hint Africa's long history of slavery and colonialism as well as todays conflicts over natural resources, especially oil. The patterns on the lower right resemble traditional Ghanaian kente weavings. Antasui was popular in Nigeria.

Faye Harty , the statue of Juno

The statue of Juno shows Hera, the roman goddess and Juno is the Greek name Juno and that's why it is called the statue of Juno. When people come to this statue they bow down and pray to it, this why the statue was created. The statue was created with stone and they use a hammer and a chisel. What influence this art was the Romans want to represent gods and goddesses. I chose this piece of art because it was interesting to look at and it was a huge statue that I never seen before. I noticed that it had no arms and usually you expect statues to have arms.

Matt Griffin - Shawabties

Shawabties are models of people that were laborers in the middle age. The people that the Shawabties modeled were like slaves. The people showed up to work when they were needed and or called upon. Shawabties were craft figurines meant to show what these types of people did. The craft shown in this picture is a person wrapped in some sort or material, lying down in a coffen. Some people would refer to these Egyptian slaves as "Mummies," these "mummies did most of their labor in ancient Egypt working on pyramids for the Egyptian empire. This must have been a hard way to live for this group of people. It sounds like they were slaves, they slept in coftens wrapped in some sort of material, they were called upon to do the labor that the Egyptian empire would not do themselves, and I'm sure they were treated very poorly throughout all of this. Maybe they were prisoners or people who committed a crime? Maybe they were the lower class man who were born into slavery. If that was the case, being born into slavery, I do not think that is very fair.

Semiramis receiving word of the revolt of Babylon- Nicole Durant

The name of the painting is Semiramis receiving word of the revolt of Babylon and it was made by Guercino. Guercino lived from 1591 to 1666. According to a legend, Queen Semiramis of Assyrian was a persevering leader. She refused to comb her hair until she stopped the rebels with her army when she heard of the revolt. The painter shows the scene through strong gestures and the location of Semiramis and her maid. Guercino was one of the most dynamic painters of his time. King Charles ll of England had some of Guerinos art.

Bust of Beatrice- Nicole Durant

A statue called the Bust of Beatrice was carved by Antonio Canova who lived from 1757-1822. The statue was made around 1819-1822. The bust is made of marble. The bust started as a portrait of Juliett Recamier. Recamier didn't like it, so he abandoned carving a marble version of her. The bust was instead carved to show an image of perfect beauty.

Slave ship- Nicole Durant

The painted was made by William Turner. He lived in England from 1775-1851. It was one of Turners most celebrated pieces of work. The title of the painting is slave ship and it was painted in 1840. The painting is based off of a poem. It depicts a true story of how a captain, in 1781, had threw a group of ill slaves overboard and sunk his ship to collect insurance money. He captured the scene through the colors and light that merged the sea and sky. The picture shows the slaves in the stormy water and the large boat sinking in the distance. Turner was an English romantic landscape artist. He devoted most of his life to art. He left more then 19000 paintings and drawings to the British nation.

Statue of Juno- Nicole Durant

The statue is of the goddess Juno. Juno is the Roman name for the goddess and Hera is the Greek name. Juno is the goddess of marriage and she is married to Zeus or Jupiter. The statue is the largest classical statue is North America. The statue weighs 13,000 pounds and is 13 feet tall. It was in a famous Italian garden for over 100 years. It was recorded as early as 1633. The statue was built around the first century BC. It was made from marble. Some people believe that Roman statues like this might have been painted at one point. The head of the statue was remade during the 21 century when it got put into the museum.

Matt Griffin - Buddha Head

The Buddha head was a symbol of the Chinese culture, it represented a fallen China warrior and or hero. The Buddha head was a head of a samurai, which was the Chinese warrior at the time. This was very common to be created in A.D 70, it was created in china by the Tang Dynasty. The Buddha head was also created by sand stone, the first Buddha head was of a China warrior, made in China. This was one type of way to remember a fallen loved one, sometimes the man in the sculpture would be a replica of the person who died. I think this is a good way to remember people if they have been killed in battle, it seems that Chinese people still keep this tradition going but other types of people refrain from doing that. Buddha was someone to be worshipped to by the China people in those days and also today. The Buddha represents as some sort of god to the Chinese culture, people worship the Buddha. This is not used as some sort of decoration but might be found in someone's home who worships the Chinese culture, today and in the past

Tori Barrett/ Watson and the Shark

This is "Watson and the Shark" it was made in 1778. The painter was John Singleton Copley. He lived from 1738-1815. This is a oil on canvas painting. This was Copleys first attempt on what is considered the most important painting in the eighteenth century. This painting supposedly really happened. The story is from the early life of fourteen year old English merchant Brook Watson. When Watson was a boy, he went swimming in a Havanna harbor and was attacked by a shark and lost his right leg. Luckily, Watson's resue was successful. Brook Watson became an outstanding merchant and help a ton of important political posts in London. Copley departed from Boston in 1774 and traveled to Europe. In Europe, he spent a year studying Rennisance, classical sculptures and paintings. John Copleys tradition for paints was limited history paintings to themes from the Bible of mythology. Copley and Watson became friends when The American artist returned to London. The detail of the injury is "hidden" under the waves, with a hint of blood in the water. The compositions shows hints of " Jonah Thrown Into the Sea" The facial expressions resemblance the emotions fear and courage.

CF-Bockscar by Matthew Jackson

This piece of art was made with burnt wood and Formica on a wood panel. This work of art was made to look like the cockpit of the b-29 that dropped the second atomic bomb on japan. This art shows that even with no money to buy art supplies besides paint this man made this amazing piece of art. The backround is the sunset that  I choose this piece of art because it was very interesting and not too many pieces of art are made out of burnt wood and the inside of the cockpit looks realistic.  This type of art fascinates me like how did they get a certain shape of the wood? This art looks like it took a lot of time to make.  I think art should be like this, to use materials around your house and see what they look like puttogether

CF

Edgar degas painted this on 1865 in France. This painting was made for a portrait for the morbilli family.  The artist created this painting by using oil paints on a canvas. this painting was made to show how the french lived at the time and things were dark for them.  The art is different from traditional art because thérèse has expression.  Earlier paintings had very little or no expression at all. I choose this painting because it was different from the one in the gallery, this caught my eye because she had a facial expression unlike the other paintings in the gallery. She looks concerned or shocked while the man looks like he is thinking or bored.  The painting uses mostly dark colors and the shadows look really realistic.

Matt Griffin- Man's Suit

"The Man's Suit" was made for a gentlemen named, Hamish Bowles who wore it in the film "The Great Gatsby." It was designed by Ralph Lauren (American) in 1967. It is made out of wool, cotton, plain weave shirt, a teffeta tie and nubock shoes. I think that this is  related to its culture by showing what the average man would wear during that time period when they dressed up, yet the color to the suit is pink, the pink signifies Gatsby's questionable past. I like this because it could be classified as art but it's really not an art object, It is a clothing style of the 70's and it's so popular because it is completely pink. Every part of this outfit is pink except for the shoes which are white. Today men's outfits are being redefined in color and more fluid ideas of design. I think it is interesting how there is  an outfit made out of full pink that is in a museum because it is not very common for any type of outfit to get put in a museum, never mind a pink suit.

BC-Slave ship

At first look it's just a picture of a ship in a storm but then you relize that there are lims of African Americans in the water and the lims are being eaten by fish. This is used to depict a sad but true story of a cargo ship carrying slaves. The slaves got sick so the captain to save himself from getting sick he threw all the slaves overbourd. When this story got out and this painting was painted England was very  upset and this helped get England closer to the end of slavery.Joseph Mallord William Turner is the artist and he made an unfinished poem to go with the painting. He exhibited this picture at the royal academy in 1840. It's an oil on canvas painting and it's an English painting 1775-1851. I chose this painting because I liked the oil on the canvas and I like how he made it so you really have to look at it to tell what it's about and even then you really have to think about it. This was an interesting photo and over all I liked it because it helped change some people's views on slavery and eventually helped get it band in England.

BC-Garden of Eden

When you first look at this painting and it's name you would think it's just a painting of a bible story. Adam and Eve in the

bible where in the bible the first humans and they didn't live really on earth they lived at a place called the garden of Eden. Also according to the bible god made them promise not to touch or eat the forbidden fruit and the devil or satin talked them into into eating it and they were kicked out of the garden of Eden like it shows in the painting. This painting was also made by an American named Thomas Cole in America during western expansion and for some ideas on what to paint depicting the garden of Eden Cole went to the west and drew some of the landscape there. What I liked about this painting is the bright colors of Eden and it's contrast to the dark colors of the external world. Eden has pretty mountain tops while the outside world has erupting volcanoes. Eden has prancing deer and the outside world has wolfs. That's what is cool about this painting it's like he painted half then he had another person come in and paint the rest of the painting.

Parker casey- zhizhe sarcophogus

this right here is the sarcophagus for sharira (holy remains)  of the priest zhizhe founder of the buddhist tiantai section. now when i first saw this i thought it was so cool. i have to admit i had no idea even what it was all i saw was a round object that looked like a mini house with two men on the side of the house. then i walked very closely to it and i read the plaque that came with it and i would of never guess that this small little thing in a glass box was a sarcophagus of a priest. now i never ever knew about this priest and i still don't know too much about him but i  can see that he was very important because he was the founder of the buddhist tiantai section. now from that i can tell that maybe he was a buddha  and almost made up a  section or religion of buddhas. i really dont know why i picked this figure or object it just cought my eye as soon as i saw it. there was the big huge statue of juno in the room and i cought this out of the corner of my eye and saw this and i definitly knew i wanted to know what this coffen thing was about

Parker casey- amiyose v

this was made by kay sekimachi. he was born in 1926 and he was a american who lives in berkeley, california. this object is called amiyose v and it was made in 1968. ita a woven nylon monofilament or plastic tubing. now sekimachi uses the loom to construct sculptural pieces. but in this one she uses monofilament unconventionally by connecting pieces of the woven separately on a loom into a cylinder structure with a inner core. i picked this object because when i first saw it i actually thought it was floating in the middle of the room so i went over to look closely and i saw a thin line of string holding it up. now this item is cool to me because i feel it is really cool how she uses a loom to make this. now a days not a lot of people use looms to make stuff.i really don't have any close interesting stuff that is kind of related to this piece of art it just looked so cool to me i had to do it. i have a couple of question i could ask her like”why did you decide to make this and what came t your mind to make such a cool piece of art?"

Sophie Guarino-The Bone Player

This painting The Bone Player done by William Sidney Mount was done in 1856. This painting is an oil painting on canvas. The man in this painting is an African American slave. He is very well dressed, happy, and does not look like every typical dirty slave. In his hands it shows him playing the bones. They are carved animal bones used to hit against each other constantly to make music and a tune. This shows that all slaves are not treated poorly. This African American had a talent and his owner gave him oppertunites to show off his talent, perform, and travel. This is a very interesting painting because most slaves are unhappy and depressed. They do not like doing the work and do not have freedom. I like this painting be because it is unique and different. It doesn't show a unhappy and sad slave being forced to do things for its owner. This painting shows a happy man doing what he loves to do. I was surprised to see the man smiley and looking happy in thus because usely slaves are not happy.

Amiyose-Madeline Aldrich

Amiyose V By:Kay Sekimachi
Madeline Aldrich
This piece is made out of woven nylon monofilament and plastic tubing. I really liked this because I have no idea what it is supposed to look like or mean which keeps the mystery. It is white and kind of looks like a falling piece of clothing or maybe a cartoon ghost. This must have taken a while to weave that much cloth. I enjoyed this piece because it looks very pretty but we don't know the purpose of it. It is a lot different that anything I've seen which is why it was in the modern art section. One thing I realized is that the room it was held in was really humid and sticky. I could feel the water in the air. I discovered that some rooms in the museum had different humiditys to preserve the artwork. Here, Kay Sekimachi uses thin monofilament unconventionally connecting pieces woven separately on an eightharness loom into a tubular structure with an inner core. The work appears to be a form within a for, and it's shifting shape speaks to tensions between transparency and opacity, interior and exterior space, and lightness and density.

The bone player-Madeline Aldrich

The Bone Player By:William Sidney Mount

This artifact is an oil painting of a male slave in the 1850s. He is a very well dressed, happy, african American man. He is also a slave, you would probably never know! In his hands show him playing the bones. They're carved animal bones used to hit against each other constantly to make a beat. This shows that not all slaves were treated bad. This man had a talent and his slave owner gave him the privilege to preform and travel. This is interesting because I didn't knew slave owners let slaves do that. Maybe slaves could be happy doing the things they loved. I was surprised to see a slave smiling because being a slave seems like the most miserable thing to be. Being a slave could be miserable because they are always ordered around to do whatever their owner wants them to do. I believe that the wealthy people were lazy because now a days we don't have slaves but are very productive. Slave owners did not necessarily need to have slaves to be successful by doing the work they could easily do.

Sophie Guarino- the garden of eden

In this painting of Explusion from the Garden of Eden. This painting was made with oil on canvas. It was painted in 1828. It was painted by Thomas Cole who was an American, born in England. It was based on having displeased the lord by eating the forbidden fruit that gave them the knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. Cole told this story through landscape. On one side of the painting the trees and nature is healthy and on the other side the nature and the greens are all dark and dead. He contrast Paradise with the harsh, violent, external world. This painting was made to show the two different kinds of the world. On one side you can see everything healthy and shinning bright, this shows that this side is healthy and happy. On the other hand, the other side is dark most of the trees and plants are dead that shows the harsh and unhappy world. I choose this painting because the way the artist painted it was very unique. He showed how the world can be a tough and unpleasent place but then it can also be paradise and tropical with happiness.

Expulsion from the garden of Eden-Madeline Aldrich

Expulsion From The Garden Of Eden By: Thomas Cole
Madeline Aldrich
This artifact is a painting of the garden of Eden and hell.  This masterpiece was made in 1828. It is made with oil paint. It is about how Adam and Eve ate the apples when god told them not to and got expelled into hell. They caused original sin because they didn't listen to their father (god) and obeyed satan. This picture portrays the best and the worst. Eden is showed as the happiest place on earth, with the healthiest foliage and where the sun is shining. Hell is showed as a dark dreary place with a volcano erupting, it also shows death, no plants or living things. I believe it shows consequences, while you're in a good position you should never disobey the person who is teaching you because bad things could happen and you could never get out of that situation. Example: Adam and Eve were in the best position until they didn't listen to the person who was teaching them (god) and then ended up in the worst situation (hell). If they trusted and listened to gods word they would be in heaven.
King Menkaura and Queen
Madeline Aldrich
This is an amazing sculpture found in Giza, Menkaura valley temple from 2490-2472 BC. It is made out of rock but painted in black because the Egyptian people loved, and were fascinated with the under world. The black paint symbolized death. Black was a positive color in Egypt. In America or with our feelings we would classify black as a dark, dreary, and depressing color usually worn when upset.  They loved thinking about what their after life would be like and prepared for their whole life to die. It's kind of weird to think about because we all live our day to its capacity trying to live each day like it's our last, and they are waiting for their last day. I could not imagine being an Egyptian because I don't know what I would myself to do or be in the after life. I do not think I could try to prepare for my death for my whole life. The sculpture was found in a hole in a temple. I chose to write about this artifact because it amazed me that someone could be that presise using simple tools that were made in 2490-2472 BC.

Matt Griffin - Guardian lion

The "Guardian Lion" was used for many different reasons in China. They were created in A.D 680 - 681 by China man workers. The lion was made out of complete stone. The stone was found in the caves of Longmen, Luoyang and the Henan Province. The stone lion was created as a guardian lion, it was said to scare off the demons that the Chinese people feared so greatly. Also the intruders or terrorists who tried to invade their towns or kingdoms were supposed to be scared off by these stone guardian lions. These were very common in the ancient times because many of the Chinese people believed in demons and bad spirits. This stone design still very common but not used for the same reasons, for example, the "Guardian Lion" was used as a guardian back then, now it is used as a decoration by many people. This artifact must have been quite heavy, it is made out of one hundred percent stone but has a design carved into it. That's like picking up a boulder, very heavy. I think this is a very pretty design, espeacially for something that was created of such long time ago.

Allegory of mans choice- Nicole Durant

The oil painting was made in 1635. The name of the painting is Allegory of mans choice. It was made by Frans Francken the young who lived from 1581 to 1642. Francken shows how important it is to choose wisely. On the earth part it a man sat off toward the center who probably represents humanity. To his left are people from history, the bible and myths. On his right are things that embody sensual pleasure. Father Time is on the left and death is on the right. Father Time and death connect the underworld and earth. The devil sits down there. The monkey king mocks the powerful and blind Cupid cautions people about crazy desires. At the top of the painting Minerva sits with faith, hope and charity.

Sophie Guarino- Virgin and Child

The Virgin and Child was made in Italy (Lombardy or Emilia-Romagna). It was made with about 1125-50 limestone, with polychrome. This image is an early example in Italian sculpture of a new devotional emphasis on the humanity of the Christ. It stresses the warm intimacy between mother and son as they draw their heads together and look into each other’s eyes, with the child reaching his arms around Mary’s neck. The stone sculpture would have been placed upon an altar, inspiring prayer and meditation. I choose this sculpture because it doesn’t actually look like jesus in a ladys arms. To me Christ looks more like a small man than a baby. That purpose was to recall the Old Testament Song of Songs, in which the bride and groom came to be seen as references to Mary and Christ.

Sophie Guarino- King Menkaura and queen

This Egyptian sculpture was of King Menkaura (mycerinus) and queen. This sculpture is one of the finest pieces of Egyptian sculptures known. This pair statue came to light in a trench in the king’s Valley Temple. Many sculptures were ritually buried in the temple area after they were no longer used. These two images are representative of the idealized concept of the monarchy in Egypt’s classical, or pyramid age. The superlative craftsmanship is evident in both faces and the rendering of the knee and leg musculature. The queen’s knees are softly portrayed through her full length garment. Even though this statue was set up in the temple, the statue was never completely  finished as can be seen by the roughness of the base and the back. The details of the costume were finished in paint, faint traces of which still remain.  I picked this sculpture because the texture and the details of the faces looked very interesting. The Egyptians used the color black because they thought the afterlife was very cool.

Parker casey- lumieres (blue square)

this was made by christian boltanski. he is french born in 1944 and lives in paris. what you see here is a blue square called lumieres. now boltanski builds altars to memory loss. now the naked bulb show a ghostly blue glow photos that he find at flea markets. boltanski was affected by his jewish father telling him stories about hiding during world war 2. now this blue square is called sylvie. we don't know if it is a hidden person or if it was jewish boltanski transformed her into a icon of humanity. i picked this piece of art because it caught my eye when i saw light all in one big square on the wall and right then i really wanted to know what was so special about this and what is its meaning. If you look very closely at the black square in the middle it looks like a young boy of some sort. Now me i don't really know what that represents but i can guess maybe its boltanski when he was younger or his jewish father hiding during world war 2. this figure just looked so interesting to me when i walked into the room of modern art and it just clicked to me i really liked this and want do this

Slave ship-Madeline Aldrich

Slave Ship
Madeline Aldrich
This painting, slave ship- was a picture of what looked to be a ship in a storm. When you look closer you could see a human leg with a group of small fish feasting on it. If you looked even closer you could see limbs and shackles that belonged on the slaves legs, with dark colored skin floating in the water. My tour guide explained to my group that the slaves had various outbreaks of a deathly viruses and the slave owner hired someone to sink the ship and get ride of the slaves to collect insurance money. The insurance money was only collectible for the slaves lost at sea, or what they thought. I liked the paint colors he used and the texture on the canvas made it seem more historical and rustic. The painting was very interesting to me because oft he background story. You would not have even known about the slave story if you didn't research it. Painting really are interesting!  It shows that every picture has a meaning behind it even though it doesn't directly tell you it could literally mean a million words by just looking at the painting.

Parker casey- elephant goat

this is an elephant goad. In india elephants are symbols of royal splendor. now if you look really close you can see mystical creatures, earth animals and gods. this tool was used for steering elephants in the right direction. I picked this weapon because i love weapons. I thought it was cool that this little weapon can practically steer a huge elephant in the right  direction. Its cool if you look at it on the top it has a spike or almost a knife so if the elephant does not pay attention or listen to them they could either kill it or injure it. Now on the right side of it you can see a hook that is used for the same exact thing as the knife but it won't go into their skin. they put it around the elephant's leg and pulls it so the elephant falls. Also the knife top can be used for if another animal attacks they can jab them. Now this item looked amazing to me because i'm not really a hunter but i like guns and knives and other sorts of weapon. This item just caught my eye walking past a hallway and bam!  i knew i wanted to write about this awesome weapon and artifact used for a huge animal

Sophie Guarino - Slave Ship

Sophie Guarino

The first picture that I choose is Slave Ship by Joseph Mallord William Turner. It is a striking example of the artist’s fascination with violence, both human and elemental. It was painted between 1775-1851. This painting was done on  canvas with oil.It is one of Turner’s most celebrated works. The painting was based on a poem that described a slave ship caught in a typhoon. The real story is that the slave ship captain, Zong, in 1781 had thrown overboard sick and dying slaves so that he could collect insurance money available only for slaves “lost at sea.” In this painting Tuner captures the horror of the event and terrifying view of nature through a variety of colors that merge the sea and sky together. I picked this painting because when I first saw it I had no  clue what it was. As I looked closely at the painting I realized that there was a ship sinking in the background and a plethora of fishes eating human bodies. The artist that painted this picture used a technique called churning, and he merged the sky and sea together which gives it a very different look and texture.

Parker casey- bodhisattya maitreya

this figure is Bodhisattva Maitreya from pakistan, kushan period, late 3rd century AD. this was made because buddhas were supposed to help people guide them down their spiritual path on earth. also in the future the believed that it would become a preacher to help people become more happy and delighted in life. i picked this piece because when i was 4 years old i started kung fu i really liked it a lot. i did it all the way until i was 13 years old. now if you know buddhas came from asia were kung fu is mostly based out of and buddhas to me are a sign of peace and relief from the world and let you get away from everyone almost like inner peace. i thought this piece was a really cool figure in the museum and buddhas are almost like a big fat fluffy friend that almost like relaxes and just is chill with what he does. They say that he was going to come back to teach others in the future the way of the buddha's life and what it does. When i laid my eyes on this piece i knew right away this was something in my heart i could right about it.
